Akamai Technologies Inc. of Cambridge has won yet another battle in its ongoing patent fight with Limelight Networks Inc. of Tempe, Ariz.
The Federal Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Monday reaffirmed an August ruling that reinstated a $45 million judgment against Limelight for infringing a patent held by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and licensed exclusively by Akamai.
Akamai is the leading Internet content delivery company. It helps major companies speed the performance of their websites by more efficiently delivering large data files, such as movies and music streams. Akamai sued Limelight, one of its major competitors, for patent infringement in 2006. Akamai won its case, and though the verdict was overturned on appeal, it has now been re-instated.
“We look forward to returning to the district court and ensuring that we are fully compensated for all our damages,” said a statement issued by Akamai on Monday.
